Three Ways To Connect To Your Womb During Your Fertility Journey

Have you recently stopped taking hormonal birth control and had your IUD removed? Have you been telling your body “NO” to pregnancy for years, yet now you have a resounding “YES”? Have you experienced abuse and trauma to the body and you are learning how to feel safe again?
Or, are you on a fertility journey and you would like to incorporate somatic and centering practices into your self-care routines?
If you’ve answered yes to any of the above, below I share three fertility boosting, and embodiment enhancing practices that I incorporated into my preconception journey, eight years ago. They continue to be helpful practices that help to reduce stress, circulate blood and energy in the womb and pelvis, and connect me to my cervical health.
By incorporating these techniques into your daily routine, you may increase your chances of conception as you create a welcoming environment for your future baby. If you are not preparing for a baby, these are still potent practices for connecting with your innate creative ability and your overall health.

Heart To Womb Meditation
Find a quiet and comfortable space to sit or lie down. Place your left hand on your heart and your right hand on your womb. Take a deep breath and exhale slowly. As you breathe in and out, circulate energy in your heart. Take your time. Don’t rush. Focus on breathing and feeling. Notice the emotions that arise. Allow them to arise and move. Do not resist. Know that emotion is energy in motion. Feel, breathe, allow.
When you feel ready, imagine the Creator, a peaceful body of water, or a prayer, circulating in your heart. When you feel a clearance and opening, bring your breath and attention to your womb. Breathe in and out and circulate energy in your womb and pelvis. Take your time. Don’t rush. Focus on breathing and feeling. Notice what you notice. Then pray and circulate the energy of peace in your womb.
Now, breathe into both your womb and your heart. Imagine a cord or bridge that connects the two. Each breath enhances a healthy and peaceful heart womb connection. Know that your emotions affect your heart (and health!), and allow space to feel and process your emotions. This will support the wellbeing of your organs including your womb, and may enhance your fertility journey and path to vitality.
Womb Massage
Do not practice if you are pregnant or have an IUD.
How to Externally Palpate the Womb
To externally palpate the womb, you need to lie down on your back with a pillow under your knees to relax your pelvic muscles. Place your hands on your lower abdomen, just above your pubic bone. Take a deep breath and exhale slowly. As you inhale, imagine a warm light entering your hands and traveling down into your womb. As you exhale, imagine any tension or discomfort leaving your body.
Using your fingertips, gently apply pressure to your lower abdomen and feel for your uterus. The top of your uterus will feel like a small, firm ball in the center of your abdomen just above your pubic bone.
Gentle Belly & Womb Massage
Womb massage is a technique that can help increase blood flow to the uterus and belly, and promote relaxation and healing. Here is how to perform a womb massage:
- Lie down on your back with a pillow under your knees to relax your pelvic muscles.
- Place your hands on your womb and breathe deeply. Slowly begin to massage your womb in small, circular, clockwise motions. Then slowly expand the circles to eventually include your belly button and outer aspects of your belly.
- As you massage, imagine your womb and belly becoming warm and relaxed, creating a welcoming environment for your baby.
- Complete your massage with a hand on your belly button and a hand on your womb.
Cervical Palpation
Do not practice if you are pregnant or have an IUD.
This technique involves feeling your cervix to determine your fertility status, and to help you get acquainted with this aspect of the womb which is a gatekeeper between the vaginal canal and the uterus. Energetically, the cervix is also a gatekeeper helping you release what needs to be released and receive what needs to be received.
Wash your hands thoroughly and find a comfortable position, such as squatting or lying down. I personally prefer to do this in the shower. Insert your pointer or middle finger into your vagina until you feel your cervix which is the donut shaped spongy area at the top of the vagina. Pay attention to the texture and position of your cervix. If it feels soft, open, and wet, you are likely ovulating. If it feels firm, closed, and dry, you are likely not ovulating. This is an introductory technique that can help you track your fertility and increase your chances of conception.
Cervical Palpation is part of fertility awareness. In the Make Space For Baby group holistic preconception preparation program, you receive guidance on non-violent, natural methods of conscious conception and conscious contraception.
The above techniques can help you connect to your womb and prepare your body for pregnancy. They are also helpful practices you may wish to continue throughout your fertile years and beyond.
