“Root Yourself in the Center of Your Personal Universe”
This is the seed, the bija and full wisdom inherent in the HoopYogini™ practice and curriculum.
It is from Centered Pose (The Posture of Present Moment Awareness through Tadasana aka Mountain Pose within the hoop) that I encourage HoopYogini™ practitioners to connect with Self and Source, and from there, to express this connection with grace and authenticity.
Courage in Action….
Ease, courage and compassion are cultivated from the regular structure and practice of establishing our Centered Pose and from developing the strength and flexibility to respond from this pose in all life situations (including performing).
Performing in front of my peers (especially while at Hoop Camp, an annual retreat for dedicated hoop dance practitioners in the Santa Cruz mountains) brings up fear, doubt and insecurity. “Do people want to see me up there?” “I don’t have enough tricks to warrant a performance.”
It’s from my center and witness consciousness that I observe this inner dialogue, AND know that I have many gifts to offer the community exactly as I am right now.
Practice as Performance….
Before the performance shared below, I stood in the center of my hoop, rooted my self and then connected with Earth and Source. From there, I breathed deep, followed my breath up and down, in and out, and communicated with Source by asking to be an answered prayer.
I asked to be myself fully.
I asked to communicate Spirit and to be an inspiration to a heart or hearts ~ “May this offering inspire one to know the Self and to radiate their light.”
Essentially, I got over myself so I could be of service through the dance.
Centered Pose in Motion….
Below you’ll see my performance/prayerformance at the 2013 HoopCamp Retreat (this year’s theme: Dancing Your Light). It starts, flows from and ends with the intention to move from my Centered Pose.
I hope you enjoy.
After you watch, comment below and share a recent experience where you courageously moved beyond your comfort zone and into a space of service and sincerity.

Taking control of the elements, Making them mine, making them mine.
Touching up all of the elements, Takin’ my time, takin’ my time.
Takin’ a hole of the present day, Pushin’ it all, pushin’ it all, pushing it.
Takin’ control of my destiny, Makin’ it fine, makin’ it fine, makin’ it.
